MLP Merch Launches The Toy Pool

It's time to reveal the big project we've been working on in the past few months! Followers of our Twitter may have already seen the sneak peak we posted, but now it's official: We're launching a multi-brand toy and doll database called The Toy Pool!

Ever since we started expanding our databases beyond My Little Pony, we've been thinking of what else we could add that can benefit the collecting community. We noticed all the requests over the years, but creating new databases is a time-consuming hobby. Especially the larger websites like LPS Merch and Nendoroid Heaven take months to create. But even the smaller ones like Ever After High require plenty of work before the website can go live.

After launching several database websites we were looking for options to create resources for even smaller brands. But the idea of creating a complete website for a toy line with just a couple of releases just wasn't viable in our minds, and we had to look for alternatives. This was in the form of  'Other Toylines' on MLP Merch where we added Hasbro's Lost Kitties. It was an experiment, and would have fitted better with LPS Merch in hind-sight, but it was clear that this wasn't the way forward.

It was the moment when we started to collect L.O.L. Surprise dolls and create the LOL Dolls database, that we decided that our next project would be dedicated to brands and toy lines that would otherwise not get our attention. We didn't want to shove more lines in the 'Other Toylines' corner, but give them a proper place. The idea was then formed to create a single website that would work as a hub for these toy lines, a figurative 'pool' for brands and toy lines that wouldn't otherwise get a database website dedicated to them. And thus The Toy Pool was born.

With The Toy Pool we can now add more brands in a matter of days or weeks instead of  months. Through this new setup we've already included 12 brands in the initial launch, including Rainbow High, Na!Na!Na! Surprise, Novi Stars and The Zelfs. And we are happy to hear what other brands are in need of a database. We can't guarantee that we'll add everything of course, but if brands are requested more often the chances surely rise.

The new website of course features the same options that are available on other databases: browse through all releases, manage your own checklist, wishlist, up to 3 custom lists and write personal notes.

And if you're wondering if the existing databases are moving to The Toy Pool: no, all websites and databases stay as they are, with the exception for Lost Kitties, who we'll move over.

We hope you enjoy browsing The Toy Pool!

  2. Is there going to be a way to merge the checklists from the other site to the new one or will it all have to be done manually?

  3. just checked out the site, its amazing!, will you be able to add older toy lines like the original 80s strawberry shortcake or care bears? or will it mostly be for newer toylines that never really lasted long?

    1. We would like to do both! At this moment our first focus is to create databases for recent/current brands that do not have (complete) resources elsewhere, and after that we can expand to other brands :)

  8. Could you possibly add Shopkins Shoppies to the database in the future?

  9. I checked out the new website, and it is very good and informative. I can't help but notice that Enchantimals is missing from the Mattel section though.

    1. Thank you! Enchantimals was one of the first lines we were supposed to add but it got a bit overwhelming for me at one point. Though I already have a lot of data ready so expect Enchantimals to be available soon. :)

  12. One suggestion I can think of is expanding the Kindi Kids section into an overall Shopkins database, since Kindi Kids is a Shopkins spin-off line. I collect regular Shopkins casually and Shoppies moreso, and while I think it's cool being able to keep track of my small amount of Kindi Kids Shoppies, I wish I could keep track of my regular Shoppie dolls, too.
