Famosa, well known for their range of G4 My Little Pony during the early lifespan of that generation. Later on Famosa stopped producing new MLP plush, so the range remains limited to Mane 6 and Princess Celestia. But they have renewed the license and just released their line-up of G5 plush! The current series features standing 10" (25cm) plush versions of Izzy Moonbow, Pipp Petals, Sunny Starscout and Zipp Storm. They all have embroidered details, brushable hair and shiny/metallic hooves. Sunny wears her badge sash and Pipp has her tiara, but Izzy lacks her bracelet.
All 4 can be found on Amazon ES and on most other European sites as well. They're €24.99 each, and apart from Sunny, are all in-stock. When and where these will be released in retail stores in unknown, but most likely the release region will remain limited to Europe only. Below we have the listings (UK for readability and ES for availability) and more photos:
Pipp lacks her wings...they are kinda weird to be honest
ReplyDeleteShe has wings, but they seem to have removed them in the product photo. If you look at the box, you can see her wings blocking Sunny.
Deletethey like the play by play but its detailed
ReplyDeleteThe eyes are a bit small, I think they should be double the size they are.
ReplyDeleteThey only look small because there is too little hair.
DeleteI found new G5 plush on a Dutch 'Amazon-like' website, but they pictured the Play by Play ponies instead. No specifications added.
ReplyDeleteAre you referring to these?
DeleteYes... They also added the other three ponies if I am not mistaken.
DeleteDespite not seeming as high quality overall, their faces are a bit more accurate than the brushable Play by Play plushies, which is a plus.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to get my hands on these, but the US is unfortunately still mostly stuck with the Just Play plushies, which leave a lot to be desired- the small ones look nothing like the movie models and Sing & Glow Izzy barely qualifies as a plush due to her completely rigid body.
The only other one I know of over here is the Franco Sunny, who has yet to exist in the rural nowhere town I live in, so I have no details on her quality.
I just really want a decently-sized, huggable Izzy... I just have to be patient, I guess.
I think I have an explanation for why these guys look similar to the Play by Play fabric hair plushies in the face and their brushable plushies (or "brushie plushies," if you will) everywhere else.
DeleteI was wondering if either set of Play by Play plushies had been released, and, not being satisfied when searching things like "MLP Play by Play plush" or even "MLP G5 plush" yielded no results, I decided to search the item number. The fabric hair plushies are number 760000000, which didn't return anything relevant, perhaps due to all of the zeros. The brushie plushies, however, are number 760019954, which returned... listings for the Famosa plushies!?
This would be an odd coincidence if the number was just randomly on the page somewhere, but it's actually the item number. Knowing both Play by Play and Famosa are based in Spain, I went to the "About Us" section of the Play by Play website for some answers.
This is what I found (note: their translation could be better):
"In 2006 FAMOSA purchases the toy companies Feber and Play by Play expanding internationally and consolidating itself within the market.
"Since 2019 we are part of the group Famosa-Giochi Preziosi, lidering the stuffed toy sector, and therefore reaching an unlimited number of retailers all over the world."
(here's the link: playbyplaytoys.es/en/about-us/ )
Is it possible that the original Play by Play brushie plushies were prototypes for these Famosa ones? And has anyone found any of the three mentioned sets in stores yet? I really want that Izzy...
